Water leak or boiler breakdown: what should you do?

A few simple details can help prepare a plumbing, heating or drain unblocking request and make the first conversation more useful.

Before you contact us

Have these details ready

Tell us your town or municipality, what is happening and which appliance or installation is affected.

For a water leak

Explain where the water is coming from, when it started and whether it is still running. If the shut-off valve is easy to reach and safe to operate, closing it may reduce the flow. Do not touch wet sockets or electrical appliances; keep away if water is near electrical equipment.

For a boiler breakdown

Note the make, model and error code if you can read them without opening the appliance. Describe the symptoms: no heating, no hot water or an unusual noise. Do not remove the casing or touch safety components.

For a blocked drain

Tell us whether it is a sink, shower, toilet or outside drain, and whether water is draining slowly, backing up or overflowing. Mention if several drains are affected. Do not mix drain-cleaning products.

Gas safety

Do you smell gas?

Do not call a plumber from inside the affected room. Leave the building without operating switches or electrical devices near the smell. Once outside and at a safe distance, call your regional network operator, or 112 if there is immediate danger.
